Skype Outside

The brief:

Get Skype users excited about being able to use Skype on their mobile.

Poke’s answer:

Scattered across the planet, five outdoor artists set Skype users’ messages free in weird and wonderful performances. We armed each of them with Skype on mobile and they took calls from the public, transforming their messages into bespoke, sharable video content.

Nitty gritty

The artists could be called directly from the Skype Outside homepage, where the full story was explained. Skype users across the world called in with messages they wanted to give to someone and the artists turned the best ones into performances. Messages were transformed into woodcarvings, snow murals, circus acts and sculptures and it was all filmed and put straight online. The turnaround was fast enough to propagate the campaign and get more people calling in.

Each video message was sent back to its sender and added to the artist’s YouTube channel for everyone to enjoy. We soon had a wealth of content, wrapping the product story and the human story into one. People not only understood the message, they also interacted with the product and Skype got to remind the world that it is a human brand.
