Designs of the Year

Designs of the Year

The Design Museum are running an exhibition called Designs of the Year. It's on from 13th Feb - 27th April.

They say:

Designs of the Year presents 100 projects nominated by a group of internationally respected design experts, curators, critics, practitioners and enthusiasts.

These projects fall within seven categories: architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport.

I've got no idea who we should thank, but the Orange Unlimited site has ended up in there. Which is really exciting for us.

You should go and check it out, not to see the Never Ending webpage (you can see that here), but to see all the other great stuff that we're really proud to be sitting alongside:

  • Gary Hustwit's Helvetica documentary
  • Streetcar
  • The Nintendo Wii
  • OLPC (One Laptop Per Child)
  • The new Fiat 500
All things that we have a great deal of admiration for, plus 93 others that we really like too.

Find out more at the Design Museum Site.

Aussie ClubPub

We've got a new approach for promoting ClubPub. Instead of telling you when it's coming up we're going to post photos showing what a great time people had instead. That way it might encourage more people to sign-up for the ClubPub mailing list (the only reliable way to find out when the next one's going to be).

The theme was Australia day. If the photos lead you to believe something else, sorry.

There's also a second lovely set of photos from the night (all arty and black and white and stuff) over here

Unlimited Presents

Dear Santa,

Our lovely Unlimited website that we made for Orange is up for FWA Site of the Year. This really would be the best Christmas present we could ask for.

Please could you and the elves give us a hand to win by voting for it? It only takes two seconds, you don't even have to register.

Love, POKE

Christmas comes early

Top of the Pops

We woke up this crispy morning to find santa had popped by a bit early and slipped a few goodies into Poke's stocking. Serial mentions in this year's Campaign Awards, the UK's pre-eminent Ad industry weekly jumped out one by one as we flipped the pages front to back.

Digital Agency of the Year

No. 2 (closely following our friends at Dare who take the top spot). We fell short of the top spot because of this year's poor new biz record. One man's "weakness" is another man's "discerning" ;-)

Top 10 Digital Ad Campaigns
At No.3 it's Orange with Spot the Bull
Straight in at No.8 are Orange and Unlimited

Top 10 Bloggers
No.6, Iain Tait, Poke partner and the guy at the turning corner of adland's revolution, pushing Crackunit.com

Top 10 Digital Talent
Just in at No.9, Iain Tait, the Taitmeister Tait in his rightful place.

Top 10 Adland Brands
Also at No.9 here's that Simon Waterfall, we're just confused why he's not number 1.

It's Webby Time Again

If your job involves doing things with the Internet you might like to know that it's time to start thinking about whether or not you've done something that's good enough to win a Webby award.

The New Poke Website

OK, OK, we know we should have had a new site back in 2003 or whenever it was that having a new website was really cool, but you'd be amazed how long it takes for a bunch of web 'experts' to pull together what might look like a fairly basic site.

For a start client work always seems to get in the way. And then you've got to try and mediate between a load of people with very different views of what the site should look like, be like and everything down to the choice of bolts you use to attach the server to the wall in the place where all the computers go.

Anyway after lots of false starts and all kinds of constructive rowing (as in having arguments not paddling boats down rivers) here's our new site...

The purpose of the redesign is to make it easier to find stuff (and in the background make it a lot easier for us to update too).

It's not perfect and there's a few bits and bobs that we're still working on, but we've heard that it's OK for your site not to work. In fact it's really uncool if your site isn't in some kind of terminal beta.

Hope you like it in spite of any little wibbles, glitches or typos.
